Long before tourism industry entered Boracay Island, the Ati tribe was already living in scattered settlements within the area. In 1997, they decided to organize themselves into a sedentary community. Hence, they created the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization and the Boracay Ati Multi-Purpose Cooperative. Currently, they are situated in Sitio Lugutan, Brgy. Manoc-manoc, Boracay Island. It has thirty (30) households living in a disputed 2.1-hectare ancestral domain.
Three existing enterprises are being run by the organization: bath soap making, sewing and handicraft making. They are currently improving quality production, strategic marketing activities and systematic management of their bath soap enterprise.
